On with the helmet, ready, set, go! It’s downhill time, which means it goes DOWN!
It’s the season final of the IXS Downhill Cup series and the last race takes place at the infamous “Speedster” race track at the rocky mountain area of Saalfelden Leogang near Salzburg. More than 300 daredevils from 25 nation race take on the challenging race track and Gonzales Photo’s Austrian photographer Christoph Oberschneider was on the spot capturing the adrenaline-fuelled atmosphere.
When it goes downhill you often find our photographer Christoph around. When he doesn’t pick up his phone we know Christoph is somewhere in the mountains on his mountain bike or skiing. Luckily Christoph always carries his cameras, so we can enjoy top quality landscape and sport photography.
Downhill mountain biking is an extreme sport where the rider has to manoeuvre downhill in a rough terrain that includes jumps and “rocky gardens”. Like many other sports it’s about reaching the finish line as fast as possible.
Downhill biking is considered a dangerous extreme sport, which also means accidents, injuries and even deaths so lots of safety gear is required for the official competitions.
